Engine oil and fluids

During the Oil Service, your Volkswagen Retailer replaces used oil with fresh oil. The oil filter and seals are also replaced – with Volkswagen Genuine Parts and Volkswagen Genuine Oil, of course.

Find out when it’s time for an oil change in your printed owner’s manual or online in the Digital Manual. This information can also be found on the Service Interval Display.

Otherwise, Volkswagen distinguishes between a fixed and a flexible service.

• Flexible service:
  According to the Service Interval Display, but at the latest after two years or 30,000 km.*
  
• Fixed service:
  Every 15,000 km, but at least once per year.

* Depending on which occurs first.

Oil residues can build up over time, which can decrease lubrication capacity and cause engine parts to be subjected to high levels of friction. That’s why it’s important to change the engine oil on a regular basis. The service employees at your Volkswagen Retailer will happily take care of this for you.

Whether it’s a petrol or diesel engine, with or without a particulate filter: Volkswagen offers a range of high-performance engine oils for your Volkswagen vehicle. For the new generation of petrol engines and diesel engines with diesel particulate filter, for example, there is the LongLife IV FE engine oil – and for older engine generations you can use the LongLife III FE engine oil. If you’re looking for an oil for engines in older Volkswagen models without a particulate filter, we recommend the smooth-running engine oils, “Special D” (for diesel engines) and “Special G” (for petrol engines). When selecting an oil, make the most of your Volkswagen Retailer’s expertise, they’ll be happy to help.

The oil filter cleans circulating engine oil as far possible of dust, metal abrasion, oil carbon and soot particles. If it’s blocked, it may cause a reduced engine performance and possibly lead to engine damage. That’s why it’s important to change it regularly.

AdBlue® is an odourless urea solution and serves to reduce harmful nitrogen oxides in emissions. It is required to start your Volkswagen diesel vehicle with SCR technology.

The Volkswagen Genuine Coolant Additive G12evo is there to protect your engine against extreme temperatures as well as corrosion, acidification, silting and limescale. If there is not enough of it available, the engine may overheat and suffer serious damage.

Normally the coolant does not need to be replaced. Nevertheless, we recommend checking the coolant level regularly between maintenance intervals. If it is too low due to an accident or a leak in the cooling system or your system is otherwise faulty, you will be notified by a corresponding warning or indicator lamp. When it comes to refilling, we recommend the Volkswagen Genuine Coolant Additive G12evo.

It’s the brake fluid’s job to transmit the pressure exerted on the brake pedal to the brakes. It’s the only way the car will come to a halt.
