Warning symbols in your car: What they can indicate

We show you what the warning lights in your car might mean. Each lamp has its own meaning and not only the symbol, but also the colour, provides information:

  • Red lamps indicate problems and malfunctions and should be checked immediately.
  • Yellow or orange lamps should be checked as soon as possible.
  • Green, white or blue symbols usually indicate activated functions or recommendations.

Digital owner’s manual

You don’t have to know the many functions or indicator and warning lamps in your vehicle by heart. Your manual takes care of that for you – now also available online. For Volkswagen models with a production date from 01/08/2019 onwards, you can simply enter the vehicle identification number (VIN). If you have an older vehicle, all important information can be found in your printed owner’s manual.
